So, Sudbury has started it's re-greening program. We've had these gigantic hills of black slag which have been there ever since I can remember. But now half of the hills have been covered with dirt, and grass is already growing.
At first, I was a little skeptical, "So, there's going to be grass. They'll just cover it with turf or something". Then I see it. It's incredible. The monolithic hills that were practically a landmark for Sudbury are GREEN. Really green. I just sat and looked at them, stunned. But the thing that really got me was this. Climbing up the now grassy slope, was a single Canadian goose. I am not ashamed to say I cried. They would have never even landed NEAR the hills, and now, a whole gaggle can be seen there. (Yes, 'gaggle' is the correct group term.)
I am so proud of this city.
