So, after 7 years I finally motivated.
Spent years trying to track down sheet music of some sort for Days Of The Phoenix with no luck. Whenever my search turned up nothing my idea would sort of drift away...
Until my friend Luda got an apprenticeship at Monkey Wrench in Rosa. Then I became determined. I searched again and after yet another round of disappointment I decided to take matters into my own hands.
So, I decided to just sit down and transcribe the fucking music myself.
And then I found that while I could write out the notes I wasn't 100% on the actual theory/signatures/notes/whateverthehellyouwannacallit
So I despaired.
And then my ex Brendan showed up randomly. Brendan is now the music teacher at the charter school and I mentioned it to him. About 30 minutes later we had a 150% correct, beyond the shadow of a doubt 17 bar intro of DOTP all sheet musiced out!
So I gave it to Jana, to pass on to Luda.
Luda said to give him a week and he'd see what he could.
A week later Luda announces while he thinks it's gonna make an epic tattoo, he can't handle the intricate lines/notes placement and stuff, but he did sketch out some ideas.
Well, I'm poor and moving so I pretty much gave up honestly. I figured maybe in another few years or something maybe I could end up saving a little extra dough to finally get it.
3 weeks later Jana hands me a Christmas card which is signed by all of my close friends and even some of my friends' parents, all of whom pitched in and paid for me to get the tattoo done!
On top of that wonderful surprise I find out that my ex and close friend Ben has actually taken Luda's sketch, embellished it and is gonna do the tattoo!
In essence:
A tattoo that started off as a far fetched dream that is (in my mind) a tribute to not only my favorite band, but a tribute to my family, friends and my entire childhood/younger years growing up at The Phoenix and in the North Bay in general, is not only a reality and happening tomorrow but was transcribed by friends, sketched by friends, paid for by friends and literally done by friends.
I love my family.
