Winny!

Thanks for the thought, but no

So a little while ago, I was attacked on facebook for 1) defending jews, 2) being mexican, and 3) being gay. I posted the entire convo on my page in a album, a lot of my friends supported me and thought they were major assholes. Now my friend Randi sent me a text about how I'm awesome and those guys were out of line, which was kinda cool, cuz she's uber christian and I wasn't too sure if I'd get support like that.

Now, a month later, she said she wrote this paper about a time where she felt the need to protect/defend someone she loved, and she said she wrote it on me (partly) so I wanted to read it, naturally.

I start reading and in the 2nd line I see "Bullied about life choices she has made"

Hell no. I did not choose to be gay, I did not choose to be some weirdo who isn't accepted in the 'normal' society and can't even marry the woman I love in the state I hail from. I mean, I appreciate what she's trying to get out, but it was not a choice.

It's who I am.

That seems to be the argument nowadays. Sure, you may be born different than us, but you have the choice whether or not to partake in the lifestyle.

Like, what? Heterosexuality is God's will, but homosexuality is just deviant heterosexuality? Is that the idea?

A lot of conservatives now are trying to come off as politically correct by saying, "Yeah, I agree you may be born with gay tendencies." But then they argue it like you're a fucking murderer or something. "I might want to kill my co-worker for being a dick, but that doesn't mean I'd actually do it." I've heard people say that very thing. It's fucking stupid.

I see how her heart's in the right place though, I know she's not homophobic, she just made a mistake.

You're right though, that seems to be what they're preaching now a days, it's quite sad.

Maybe she just worded it wrong and really didn't mean any harm by it--although I do definitely see how you could misconstrue that.

At least she stood up for you though. Maybe ask her about why she worded it that way and help her understand you better.

Yeah. I was thinking about this topic a couple days ago, actually.

I agree completely with you. People don't choose that. Just like they don't choose to like or not like a certain food. You just do or you don't.

    It is what it is.

She may have worded it wrong, but I don't see her as the type of person I could sit down an explain it too, she's the typical 15 year old girl, and she's never "serious".

I may try, but not right now.

Then you demand she reword it or threaten to sue for slander!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not really. Hahah!

Ah, this old song and dance. It really is just about how the information was presented to her, as Nick said, she seems to be trying to be more politically correct then anything else. If I were in your shoes, and I have been in similar situations, I would feel the same way. I get were your problem lies, the thought is appreciated, but instead of actually talking to the person they wish advocacy for, it comes across like a PC article on a poster child for a cause they don't truly understand. Again, heart's probably in the right place, but sometimes nothing is better then a half-assed job.
