Just some thoughts...

So I'm kind of new to this whole blogging thing, but I've kind of realized some things and figured this would be a place I could get some sensible reception. Maybe some similar or even contrasting ideas, and not a blank stare...such as on Facebook.
Anyways, I've been going through a really hard time. Boo Hoo. Whatever. About a year ago, I became a "born again" Christian. Got really big into my religion. Things seemed to get better, but everywhere around me, everything seemed so weird. So...unreal. I ignored it, blindly followed my faith. Whatever. Met a guy. He was also super religious...different faith. We decided to go with it. Got engaged. 5 months later, he decides because our faiths are different, I'm trash and not worth time. Whatever. Trust me...this post will get better...this is not the point of this post.
So break up. Fun times. Anyways, I decide that what I need to do is get my act together. Get healthy, start looking at some new ideologies. because the one I had was DEFINITELY NOT WORKING. So, I start working out, concentrating on my weight. I've always been interested in the idea of veganism, but come from a VERY southern "meat and potatoes" family, so it's been strongly discouraged. Anyways, I've decided that now should be a time of "rebirth" for me if you will, so I look into it. And I am absolutely amazed. Because it all makes so much sense. And as I'm looking into all this I stumble across a quote that basically says "Ya know, how can we ever hope for any kind of good respectable society capable of any love and happiness when we live in a society that not only condones, but encourages the mass murder and torture of defenseless animals?" (That's obviously not verbatim, but that was the basic idea...)
Anyways, that really hit me. And it really made so much sense to me. That is why this society is so crappy. There is ZERO respect for anything, especially life. People only care about number one, and fulfilling their impulsive wants and needs and they don't care anything about how it affects anything or anyone around them. Be that through promiscuous sex and unfaithfulness in relationships, to slaughtering animals for food. We have absolutely zero respect for anything, not even ourselves. We go out and booze and self medicate to try to make all these feelings of emptiness go away. But guess what? It's not going to happen. Because until we can love the little things that we see as expendable, such as animals or nature, how can we ever hope to have some deep, eternal, meaningful relationship with a human being?
In my personal opinion, it's not possible. If we have no RESPECT, then what do we have? You cannot love something or someone you don't respect. And it is this selfish, narcissistic way of living and thinking that leads to every single problem we have in this society. And no one cares. Everyone is so worried about "number one" that they do nothing to change it. And every single bit of good, every bright flame, is quenched and drowned in this ever ensuing flood of judgement, hypocrisy, lies, deceit, and greed. Everything we THINK we love, everything we DO "cherish" and "value", is going to be destroyed, because we are just too lazy and selfish to do anything differently.
If everyone would just make the conscious decision to RESPECT every living thing. Realize that no matter what something may mean or NOT mean to you...it probably means a hell of a lot to someone else. Make the conscience decision to not afflict harm to anyone in any way. Don't do anything that is going to hurt someone directly or indirectly. This is NOT a christian principle...as christianity has shown us TIME and TIME AGAIN, but a basic principle of human decency. Just some thoughts. Think about someone other than yourself for just ONCE a day. Do something ONCE A DAY that benefits something or someone else, but not you in any way. Do ONE completely unselfish act ONCE A WEEK and I guarantee you, this world would be a much better place.
And that's all I have to say from this soapbox.
