The Truth About BOO! ?

Rating: 4 votes, 4.00 average.
What is the real reason behind the placement of "BOO!" on the inside spine of All Hallow's EP CD? Is it simply a Halloween joke? Was/is it a secret track? Both?

I think it is a track, I think it is on the CD, AND it is a joke.

Let's take this into account:
Look at the order of songs on your All Hallow's EP Booklet (not back cover).

1. Fall Children
2. The Boy Who Destroyed The World
3. Totalimmortal
4. Halloween

What is the track list of the actual CD?

1. Fall Children
2. Halloween
3. The Boy Who Destroyed The World
4. Totalimmortal

Why the change?

In my opinion (and many others'), Alan Forbes drew the track list incorrectly. Rather than make him draw it again or digitally change it, they changed the track list.

So what has BOO! got to do with this?

Well, BOO! WAS a final 'unlisted' track. Simply, the piano/string clatter at the end of "Halloween". Seems completely pointless to put this music in the middle of a CD which ultimately destroys the flow of the EP (AFI are known to choose the best flow on their releases) and I undoubtedly believe it was designed as the end track. Thus AFI continuing from Black Sails In The Sunset the spine last track tradition.

Why would Nitro choose to re-arrange the CD into a nonsensical order rather than spend time to make it correct?
Well, go look at Black Sails In The Sunset... it's 2007 and still the track list is unchanged.

From a post I made today (11-08-03)
--------------------------------------------
The track list for All Hallow's EP got messed up. The correct track list order should have been:

1. Fall Children
2. The Boy Who Destroyed The World
3. Totalimmortal
4. Halloween

But Alan Forbes did the artwork weirdly. So, to avoid confusion, the track list order was changed.

The "Boo!" then became pointless as it was no longer the 'secret' track. I believe it was meant to be the piano/strings at the end of "Halloween", but fate would have it otherwise.

I must also address the counter-claim to this that the track listing in the booklet appears the way it does so as to separate the lack of 'Halloween' lyrics and copyright notice to Glenn Danzig. This counter-claim does not have any historical support as if we look at Answer That And Stay Fashionable the track listing was not changed to make this a possibility.

PLEASE NOTE
a: It has been said many times the artwork had the track list incorrectly by Alan Forbes by people around the band. So it is the most likely case.
b: This information does not remove from the fact the title was done as a Halloween joke on the CD.
c: I know the album is deliberately 13 minutes in length and this information also does not remove that as fact.

Thanks to Alli for the archive otherwise this information may have been lost!

How do you know it was deliberately 13 mins long? Not that i'm challenging you - you're pretty much always right [you and your incomprehensively extensive knowledge of AFI and all] [wow, big words] but i don't like the idea of AFI changing their music just to make the EP a certain length - like how people are all "OMGZ Affliction is 3:37 long!" - yeah, right. It's just 3:37 long. And there is also the rain noise at the end of (i think) The Boy Who Destroyed the World - wouldn't that have interrupted the 'flow' of the four songs together as well?

    But, interesting still.

Well, I agree. However, in this case it is entirely possible.

Firstly, the end of Halloween would stay on Halloween. Halloween was just meant to be the final song. Not TBWDTW.

The 13 mins exact timing is regulated purely by the mish mash at the end of Halloween (BOO!). So no changing to AFI's songs to fit in with a time (which I think would be totally insane of them to do) and no swapping parts from track to track.

    1. Fall Children
    2. The Boy Who Destroyed The World
    3. Totalimmortal
    4. Halloween
(5). BOO! (end of Halloween) which brings the total to 13 mins.

That flow of songs is also much much better if you run them that way. The end of TBWDW into the drum start of Totalimmortal is perfect!

Oh, and just one other thing (sorry) - though they wrote "Beyond and To All Time I Stand" in Black Sails, that wasn't actually the name of the 'secret' track - it was just a lyric from it [as you know the track was actually titled 'Midnight Sun']. TAOD was the first one (that we definitely know) where the spine actually read the title of the 'secret' track. And they had written 'a fire inside' on the spine of SYMAOYE - so it doesn't necessarily have to be the title of a track.

Sorry, i know i sound like i'm really trying to shoot down your theory - i'm not, i actually like it a lot - but these are just things that keep coming up in my mind.

And, also, may i ask - does the spine of the Black Sails EP say anything?

im curious of that too...since I dont own it

I always wondered why the extra bit after Halloween was in the middle of the tracks and not at the end. Interesting!

I'm burning a new copy of my CD. it definitely sounds better in this order.

The BS EP one only says "From the upcoming Nitro release "Black Sails....." It would be soooo cool if it would include lyrics from "Who Knew?" instead:)
