Victory and Defeat

The United States of America has chosen it's first african american president in the history of its existance. I am so proud of our country, the people of the U.S. did not see Obama as an african man, and they did not see Mcain as a caucasion man. They saw who would be better for our country, they listened to what each canidate had brought to the table and then decided upon thier choice. This is truly a beautiful moment in history. It says alot when people are able to stop judging someone by their race, sex, creed or orientation, and really be able strip that person of all steriotypes, and see them as an individaul.

As for California I am so dissapointed that propisition 8 has passed. My heart is still very heavy with sadness , sympathy and empathy for all the people that now by law cannot marry the ones they love. The fact that this matter had to be brought up to vote upon is sickening! Who are we in this world to take away some ones rites as a human being? It is so unfair and disgusting to keep two adults who are truly in love with each other from partaking in a the beautiful, innocent and joyist, cerimony of marriage. I wish that people would take their petty and irrelevant problems with this matter aside and relize that they have no rite to attempt to constrict someones free will. Because prop. 8 was passed, there are so many hearts, hopes and dreams that are crushed! Also because prop. 8 was passed, we are teaching those younger than us that it is ok to relentlessly discriminate people and deny people of their rites and happyness. The last thing we need on this planet are more ignorant people that look down upon something that may come across to them as "different"or something they fear or hate because they do not understand it.

I agree that election night was bittersweet. Electing Obama on the one hand, then these discriminatory marriage bans passing in several states (not just California).

One thing to keep in mind is that people under 30 voted heavily against Proposition 8, so there is some hope for California's future.

I echo all these feelings exactly.
