Should I try out for America's Next Top Model, yes or no?

The height requirements for tryouts are now 5'7'' and under. My sister is trying out Saturday morning and wants me to join her. I've always entertained the idea, but never did for many reasons.

1. My nagging feminist brain only RECENTLY began to understand that virtually anything can be taken on with a feminist perspective, even modeling.
2. I'm 5'5'' and 130-135 pounds off and on.
3. I have a pair of impressive, though unconventional DD boobz that prevent me from fitting into many shirts and swimsuits.
4. And of course the ever-present idea that I might not be as pretty as I think. Of course.

If the height requirements are lowered and the last few seasons have included plus size models, there might be a chance in-between sized girls like me might be considered this time around. So. Not fishing for compliments or looking to purposely belittle myself for sympathy or anything, cross my heart. I just find it helps to have some backup opinions on confusing situations.

In all honesty, what do you guys think? Would the almighty feminist goddesses smite me?

5'7" and UNDER? Hooray for short girls! I say go for it. You're cute as and you're actually interesting. Good news for TV.

Feminist Goddess can take a raincheck while you ascend to fame and leggy fortune.

    Do it!

If you grow your hair longer before they start filming and they want to cut it all off for your makeover, you'll already know it looks good and you won't cry on tv!

Do it! You're so pretty (hope that's not creepy) and hey, you won't be one of those girls to cry if you cut all your hair off! Haha.

You should do it! Just think of yourself as a modern Gloria Steinem (sp?) when she did her 'undercover' work as a Playboy bunny. At the very least, it should be an interesting experience. You definitely have the looks!

Thanks what I was thinking, Shana! Though I find it hard to tell whether Tyra considers herself and her shows feminist(ish), as she tends to focus less on the strict standards of the rest of the modeling world for her show.

I just heard my little sister tell my middle sister, "Why is she trying out??" Yeah. Not sure yet. I think I'm going to fill out the application and show up with my sister and then see if I'm feeling it or not. If they're going for shorter unconventional models, they may be considering non-skinny/not-quite-plus-size this time around. If so, my trying out might not be too out there. We'll see.
