Isn't that really "bands that some people listen to and how they did on the SAT"?
A guy named Virgil Griffith did a recent study of SAT scores vs. bands people listen to. He is a former computer hacker with mad math skillz and put together this data.
I'm laughing my ass off that AFI fans are on the low to average side of things. But the really stupid people listen to Lil' Wayne, TI, and Beyonce.

Wait. I skipped the SAT, maybe not?

Meh, interesting, but I'm not so sure on how credible it is. You can't say music makes you dumb, I'm sure social class comes into play here, as well as how convenient he made his samples.
We're cowpunchers and we're mean as hell.
Wow! Guster is right up there! But wtf with the Counting Crows?
That's some chart!
If he's such a genius, why'd be fall for the "correlation implies causation" fallacy?
Also, I have a hard time believing that Counting Crows fans are any smarter than most of those other bands' fans.

He's not saying music makes you dumb, I don't think. I think that is just the title of it to get your attention. I think he's just saying that there is a correlation between peoples' SAT scores and the music they listen to. I don't think the music itself made them dumb, just Lil Wayne attracts dumbasses.![]()
His answer: "That's true. However in this case correlation is enough -- the results are provocative regardless of whether A causes B or B causes A, or even an unknown C causes A and B."
You can read his FAQ on it here:

It's not really that provacative, considering there's no discussion of standard deviation, mean, or accounting for what people with scores over 1300 tend to listen to.

Okay did you even read the faq? LOL
Do people with SAT >= 1400 just not listen to music?
No, they do listen to music -- just look at those high-tier school's facebook profiles! *Averages* are being plotted. So even though high-scoring schools are included in this average, the average is pulled down by the less selective schools
