Who's looking forward to The Dictator? I really love Sasha Baron Cohen's ability to get into character and pull of something totally socially unacceptable. Who's going to see this?

Just got back from The Avengers. Absolutely incredible. I would complain about the amount of one-liners, but then again, it's a fucking superhero movie. That's what I paid for.
    I just blue myself.

Dark Shadows was so incredible. Between Johnny Depp and Tim Burton... God, it was good.

    I just saw Battleship.

It had all the elements of an excellent action movie: Relatable characters, comic relief, loads of explosions and tense music.

None of those were executed correctly. In my admittedly short 15 years of life, that is the single worst film I've ever suffered through, to the point that I nearly fell asleep during one of the most high-octane action scenes. The script was miserable at best. Phrases like "*insert-cheesy-comment-here*, motherfucker" became cliche beyond what they already were. The characters, while occasionaly relatable and interesting, were nonetheless cardboard. They were the perfect stereotypes: the brave-but-quick-to-snap underdog hero, the kickass-eye-candy female lead, the all-too-human coward who gains bravery at just the right moment. The effects were ridiculously over-the-top; a tiny detonator from the aliens tore a ship to pieces. The plot twists were unrealistic, the worst of which being when a 70-year old battleship is employed and it A. somehow works as good as new B. is still stocked with ammo and C. stands up to damage that the modern-day battleships couldn't take. The aliens themselves were god-awful in design. They were basically just humans, only with four fingers, reptillian eyes and Dr. Zoidberg probosces on their chins. They were defeated because one guy figured out that, like his pet lizard, they were susceptible to sunlight. They also had these gigantic, ultradestructive war machines that were taken out with two missiles. The acting was piss-poor as well. Not a single iota of emotion was expressed in the already terrible lines. The film was full of random sub-plots that did next to nothing for character development or the plot of the movie itself. These little intricate relationships were apparently supposed to be felt within five minutes; the only important character that dies dies at around the 20 minute mark, if not a little later.

I'm just starting to ramble, because I simply have so many negative things to say about this movie, so I'll stop now.

But first, my favorite part: At one point, a Japanese character employs this tactic, supposedly one used by the Japanese government against the U.S., of using beacons to detect water displacement in order to determine the location of alien ships. This is a grid laid out and used exactly like the Battleship game board. I hung my head in bitter regret for having spent money on it.

Really? I thought it was decent but not really incredible, and I'm a huge Burton and Depp fan.
The time is so little, the time belongs to us. Why is everybody in such a fucking rush?

Agree! I loved it! I'm a huge Johnny Depp fan and I think this was the best JD movie I've seen in a long time.
