Interesting idea. Impressive technology. I don't see the problem. Its not a real being, its not a ghost. Its a generated image. it has no life, no feelings, no brain etc etc. It is simply a prop, no more, no less. It is not a performer and isn't the person it represents.

When its done in film, no one takes any issue, its simply because the technology being used on stage makes it look more real, when actually, its no different.
Its like people who say that video games are far more violent now than 20 years ago. They aren't at all, intact the opposite is often the case. Its just the tech has improved to make it look more real.

Exactly. You're kind of proving the opposite point; it's not real. As such, it's kind of stupid to do, because it's not the same. Thirty, forty years down the road when the AFI boys are no longer with us, I don't want to see some AFI Hologram Tour. When a musician is dead, let their legacy carry them, not smoke and mirrors. I don't even like it when the performers are alive; get someone else to sing the part and have them up onstage.

I don't think its necessarily stupid. Bands use different things to enhance their performance. Lighting, pyro, videos etc are all used to beef a performance and in a lot of cases it very much works to the bands advantage. Muse are a great example of this. Rather than thinking, yeah, thats tupac on stage. The bit that impressed me is that they could make it look like he was on stage, rather than just on the screens. Its the how they do it and use it to their advantage that I like.

At the end of the day its all down to preference. You might say why would someone go to a hologram show? But then you get people who say, why go to any show, when you can just listen to it on CD? or, Why go to a covers gig, its not the real thing? Why go an watch a play, when you could watch a film with much better effects? Or you could switch it around to why watch the film, when all it is are effects? If you can believe in the illusion and enjoy it, then fair play. I wouldn't go to a hologram show, because I simply wouldn't be able to treat it like the real thing. Doesn't mean there are people that can't tho, or that its ridiculous that they would. Its just a form of entertainment.

I see your point. I must say, though, call me old-fashioned but I'm more comfortable with a real performer.

I don't see the problem, as long as the money made is going directly to Pac's family. I read somewhere his mom was fine with it. Aside from the hype and money it obviously generated, I see it as definitely as carrying on his legacy.

Just read this, which made me think of this thread. I find Roger's stance comforting.

    Speaking of Roger and holograms,

I hope they have Zapp perform with a hologram Roger.
