The Moderator Position

I think something about the moderator position(s) could use some gentle clarification, based on comments and attitudes I see from time to time.

No one has been chosen by Sonia or myself to be a moderator because they are/were a "good poster," or because of dedication to AFI, or because they're a real-life friend of ours. All the mods are varying combinations of these things, but most importantly none of them set themselves up to become a moderator. They were just the right person, right place, right time. Although I could explain why each mod was the right choice, and why they keep the position, I feel that would be interpreted as a "formula for success" by some people and it isn't fair of me to give that impression.

To sum up--
1. We don't need any more mods;
2. Be a good poster for its own sake and no other reason;
3. Don't call us, we'll call you, but we probably won't. We love you anyway.

Also, this would be a great thread for you to give props to the moderators without looking like a suck-up, because they are fucking awesome and this place couldn't exist without them. Much respect!

I think "outing" the mods was one of the clever things that you did. I'd already guessed some of their identities, but the board seems to be moving smoother now that they feel free to interact with the rest of us. Sonia always did, so did Nick, but some of the others--? *shrug* People behave slightly better when they think there is a flesh-and-blood person behind the name. You've all done wonderfully. Thanks!
